Herbs useful for treating nausea: Wormwood.

Herb name: Wormwood, Artemisia absinthium

wormwood

Family: Asteraceae (Compositae)

Useful plant parts: Flowering plant

Description: Wormwood is a perennial plant usually high from 50 to 100 cm. The stem is straight, branched and covered with dense, silver-gray hair. Because of that, the whole plant has a greyish appearance. Leaves are small and scattered, usually in groups of three smaller parts. Blooms of this plant are half round and small, and are developed on tops of the stems. The whole plant has a strong and distinctive smell.

Collecting period and locations: The upper parts of plants are gathered during flowering (together with the blooms), and are tied in bunches and dried in a dry and warm place. As for the locations, wormwood can be found along river shores, along paths and fences. Wormwood grows well in dry habitat.

Medicinal properties and applications: Wormwood is an excellent aid against stomach and bile problems. Indigestion and lack of apetite are conditions that wormwood also effectively treates. Also, wormwood is generally good for strengthening the body, and for developing resistance to various diseases.

Active compounds: Absinthin, essential oil (which contains thujone and phellandrene) and tannins.

Recipe: One teaspoon of dried wormwood is put in a fourth liter of boiling water, left for 10-15 minutes, strained and used while still warm. During illness, it is necessary to drink 2-3 cups a day.
